I love the classrooms that look cozy with Christmas decorations. As I scroll through Pinterest, I decided that I wanted my classroom to have a cozy Christmas feel, but with decorations made by our class. The man issue was TIME. I can barely find the time to teach the main subjects, how was I going to mix in a craft? Well just like working out, we make time for what we want.
I whipped up these light bulb note cards. Print on colored paper, or black and white and have students decorate themselves.
I recommend cutting the paper in fourths and when kids write on it, they can cut out the outline of the lightbulbs.
The goal is for students to write an act of kindness that another student did. I love highlighting good deeds, especially when the kids are the ones highlighting it! Keep a stack of the bulbs in a basket so the kids can just get up on their own and write a good deed if they need to. My class does year round “kindness links“. To make it easier to place on yarn. Keep a hole punch near the basket that contains the lightbulbs (or nearby wherever you plan to keep the stack of papers). Just tell kids to make one punch on each side of the light bulb (thing) haha—I have NO IDEA WHAT IT IS CALLED 😉
To really celebrate kindness, I have the kid that wrote the note about the other student GIVE the note to that kid. The child that did the kind act can read it, feel warm and fuzzy, then go hang the lightbulb on the yarn (or fishing wire for a prettier display).
